One of the Mediterranean diet's many beneficial elements is virgin olive oil (VOO). Chronic inflammatory disease states are less common in Mediterranean communities, and VOO is frequently ingested as part of a regular dietary pattern. Oleocanthal, a phenolic substance found in VOO, and Ibuprofen have distinct anti-inflammatory and perceptual properties. Oleocanthal has gained interest in recent years as researchers look for naturally occurring substances with pharmacological properties. Oleocanthal has been found to have a variety of modes of action in lowering inflammation-related diseases, such as joint-degenerative disease, neuro-degenerative disease, and some malignancies. It is therefore hypothesized that long-term ingestion of VOO containing oleocanthal may help explain the positive effects on health.
